Rockford man charged for aiming laser pointer at aircraft

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man faces federal charges for aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft and its flight path in December.

Brenton Wells, 45, was arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday. He faces up to five years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 if convicted.

Laser pointers can cause flash blindness and affect pilots between take off and landing.

Wells appears for arraignment at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
