Rockford man arrested for firing shots into air near downtown

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man was arrested on multiple charges after police say he fired shots into the air near downtown Tuesday night.

Jerry Tilley, 32, was charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon, unlawful use of weapons by a street gang member, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and no FOID card.

Officers responded to a shots fired call around 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of 17th Avenue.

Police say no one was hurt and the suspect did not strike anything. Officers recovered a loaded weapon and used ammunition.

Tilley was taken into custody. He is being held in Winnebago County Jail.

Tilley is considered innocent unless proven guilty in the court of law.
