Rockford man and woman arrested after a gun and drugs are found in car

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Two people are arrested following a traffic stop where a gun and drugs were found.
Rockford police say an officer pulled over a car driven by 22-year-old Brooke Rogers, of Rockford, near the intersection of Eleventh Street and Fifteenth Avenue for speeding.
The officer did a search of the car when they could smell burnt cannabis coming from the inside of the car. During a search, officers found a handgun with an extended magazine and a small bag of crack cocaine.
Rogers is charged with driving while her license is suspended.
Front seat passenger, 20-year-old Rahime Briggs, of Rockford, is charged with armed violence, aggravated use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, violation of the firearm owner's identification act and possession of a controlled substance.
Rogers and Briggs are considered innocent until proven guilty.
