Rockford man acquitted of murder in 2017 shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man on trial for the murder of a 25-year-old man in 2017 was acquitted by a jury.

Tracy Barfield Jr., 23, was freed of first-degree murder charges for the shooting death of Marlon Pendleton, according to court records.

Pendleton was shot and killed on Aug. 26, 2017 in the parking lot of the Fairgrounds Valley in the 300 block of Underwood Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Barfield was also acquitted on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card.
