Rockford issues advisory for leaf pick-up, disposal procedures

In an effort for an environment-friendly autumn, Rockford has issued an advisory for properly collecting and disposing leaves around the city.

Residents can dispose leaves and other yard waste during their regular garbage pick-up day. Waste collectors will take biodegradable 30-40 gallon paper bags.

Bags and other containers with yard waste cannot weight more than 50 pounds. The city also advises against mixing yard waste with regular garbage.

The city also reminds people that burning leaves and other yard waste is illegal.
