The city of Rockford received three proposals from groups that want to build a casino in the area.
One group, Luna Entertainment, turned in plans for a Forest City casino near the Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside. That casino would sit on 135 acres of land.
Wisconsin-based Gorman and Company's casino plans are in downtown Rockford, near the soon-to-be Embassy Suites Hotel near Davis Park. That proposal also includes an aquarium.
Hard Rock International wants to build just off I-90 on East State Street, where the Clock Tower once stood. It carries the "star power" of Rick Nielsen, of Cheap Trick fame, and his family.
The deadline for proposals was 2 p.m.
The city's review team will look at the proposals and submit follow-up questions before a public hearing scheduled on Sept. 23.
The city will consider several factors, including job opportunities, economic benefits and use of local and small business suppliers and vendors before making a recommendation to the full council.
Once the city council votes and chooses a project, it will be sent to the Illinois Gaming Board for final approval.
