Rockford Fire celebrates promotions, welcomes new members
The Rockford Fire Department grew a little bigger Thursday, welcoming eight new recruits and promoting nine of its members to new positions.
Three captains, Luis Duran, William Hyde and Slade Berry, were promoted to district chief.
Three lieutenants, Trent Brass, Matthew Lawrence and Rodriguez George, were promoted to captains.
Two drivers, two lieuenants and another fireighter will have the new title as lieutenants.
The department also welcomed eight new recruits that started the academy this week and will graduate in four months.
Rockford Fire Chief Derek Bergsten says his best advice to his members is to never stop learning.
"Educate yourselves on providing the best community service and just continue on that track and continue to learn regardless of if you just got promoted to district chief or new recruit," says Bergsten. "There's always things in our field to learn and continue to improve yourself to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Rockford."
