Woman in critical condition after Tuesday's fire on South Main Street

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- An elderly woman is in critical condition after a fire destroyed a home Tuesday afternoon in the 3200 block of S. Main Street.

Jon Trail from the Blackhawk Fire Protection District tells 23 News the woman's home was demolished and considered a total loss. She also had a pet dog, but crews are not sure what happened to the dog.

Blackhawk, Rockford, Rockton, Loves Park and North Park crews all responded to the fire. The first responders arrived at the scene around 4:15 p.m.

Crews worked to put out the fire for more than two hours. It's unknown what caused the fire, but the Illinois State Fire Marshal will take over the investigation.
