Rockford Rotary issues service awards
Rockford Rotary presented the prestigious "Service Above Self" Awards at a banquet at Veteran's Memorial Hall in downtown Rockford. For the first time, they also issued the "Mary Stuart Carruthers Community Impact" Award.
That award was issued to The Catholic Women's League. Carruthers passed away in April and this award was named in her honor for her services towards the community.
The Catholic Women's League was established in 1909 and has been servicing the community ever since. Presenting the award, Rockford Rotary says, "The impact of the Catholic Women's League is twofold, it provides support for immigrants working to find a new home in our community and to long-time residents struggling with poverty, illness and loneliness. The members, through volunteerism, have become better neighbors, better family members, and a better member of our community."
Jacque Bolger, recent President of The Catholic Women's League accepted the award on the organization's behalf and couldn't be more proud to hold this award honoring Carruthers. Bolger says, "Mary Stuart Carruthers was the epitome of people in Rockford who give back to the community. She always gave, she always looked for ways in which she and all of her organizations could give to the community, without seeking any recognition for themselves. So we are thrilled."
