ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- For the first time in years, Rockford Public Schools started the 2019-20 school year after Labor Day.
But that won't be the case for the 2020-21 school year.
RPS 205 will begin the school year on Sept. 1, 2020, after a vote at Tuesday's board meeting.
The school district says a late Labor Day next year played in a role in the decision to start before the holiday in 2020.
In 2019, the school district said the start date was moved back to “help students and staff avoid 10 days in August that are typically very warm."
