ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The United States Postal Service battles a busy holiday season with plans to expand delivery service from the Rockford Post Office seven days a week.
According the Postal Service, customers can expect mail earlier in the morning, later in the day and on Sundays.
The Postal Service expects around 15 billion pieces of mail, including more 900 million packages, will be delivered between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve.
“The Postal Service is well prepared to meet our customers’ needs during the holiday season,” says Rockford Postmaster Charles Thorns. “We ask customers that are expecting a package to please turn on their porch light so our letter carriers can deliver safely.”
The Postal Service predicts the week of Dec. 17-23 to be the busiest for mailing. The organization recommends sending packages by these mail-by-dates for packages to arrive at homes safely before Christmas.
