Rockford Police chase ends with two-vehicle crash

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- A chase with Rockford Police ends in a two-vehicle crash near Rural Street and Paris Avenue early Saturday afternoon.

Just before noon, officers responded to a welfare check call at 12th Street and 12th Avenue for a man sitting in a car.

Once there, the driver drove his white car in the direction of the officers, almost hitting them.

After a short chase, the suspect crashed into a sign at the intersection of Charles Street and Washington Street. He continued driving, hitting an SUV before running away, being taken into custody shortly after.

32-year-old Timothy Bennett is facing multiple charges including aggravated unlawful use of weapons by a felon, aggravated assault to an officer, resisting police, reckless driving leaving the scene of a crash and using a revoked driver's license.
