ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford Park District says it needs to make nearly one million dollars in cuts to meet a balanced budget.
The park district says it votes on a finalized budget next January but says it already needs to meet cuts ahead of that vote.
The district says while more than ten million people made a stop at one of their facilities in 2016, they are looking to reduce expenses to meet their budget limits.
To meet budget cuts, officials are proposing the elimination of four full-time positions, reducing support and parking staff at certain events and reduce the Music in the Park summer concert series to eight weeks.
The district is also considering closing Harkins Aquatic Center two weeks early as well as eliminating indoor swimming lessons.
