Rockford K-9 unit helps with man's arrest, police recover stolen gun

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man was arrested on weapons charges Monday night with help from the Rockford Police Department's K-9 unit.

Delaneo Love, 33, was arrested after reportedly leaving his car during a traffic stop near Brown and Hecker avenues.

Officers conducted the traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. Police say Love left his car and led officers on a brief foot chase before he was tracked down by a Rockford Police K-9.

Love was taken into custody near Hecker and Custer avenues. He was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital after a K-9 bite.

Police recovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and determined the gun was stolen while investigating.

Love was charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon, aggravated fleeing to elude, resisting/obstructing an officer and driving on a revoked license.

Love was taken to the Winnebago County Jail. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
