Rockford family displaced after morning house fire

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Updated: March 14, 2019, 1:15 p.m.

The Rockford Fire Department deems a home at 1338 Derby Lane uninhabitable after an early morning house fire.

Fire officials say the family and a dog were able to escape the house fire safely. The Red Cross is assisting the family with housing plans.

Crews arrived around 8 a.m. and put out the fire within 15 minutes. Rockford Fire says it caused significant smoke damage and fire damage in the rear.

Officials have not yet determined a cause, but estimated the fire caused around $50,000 in damages.

The Rockford Fire Department reports that a fire is now under control in the 1300 block of Derby Lane.

Crews arrived to the home around 8 a.m. The fire reportedly started in the back of the house. No one was hurt in the fire.

Fire officials have not yet determined the cause or a damage estimate for the home.
