Rockford Fire Department battles massive fire near downtown

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- Crews from the Rockford Fire Department are on scene of a massive fire at South Main and Mill Street, just south of downtown Rockford.

Two vacant structures were engulfed in flames around 8 Tuesday night. It took less than four minutes for the Rockford Fire Department to respond to the fire.

Rockford Fire Chief Derek Bergsten says four engines, two ladders and an ambulance responded to the scene, which has reached a third alarm.

Bergsten says the fire is being called suspicious in nature due to the fact that the buildings were vacant. There are no injuries at this time.
