Dr. Paul McCombs, a professor of mathematics at Rock Valley College, was honored Thursday with a National Teaching Excellence Award.

McCombs was recognized at the annual AMATYC (American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges) Conference in Milwaukee.

The award is given every other year to AMATYC members who demonstrate excellence as two-year college mathematics instructors.

Since 2001, McCombs has taught all levels of mathematics, from developmental to the highest level math courses offered at RVC.

McCombs is originally from Cherryville, North Carolina. He earned his doctorate in Mathematics Education from Northern Illinois University.

He joins RVC colleague, Professor Diane Koenig, as an AMATYC Teaching Excellence Award recipient. Koening was honored in 2015.
