Rock County Sheriff's Office warns of jury duty scam
ROCK COUNTY, Wis. (WIFR) -- The Rock County Sheriff's office says several people in the area have been contacted by phone by someone claiming to be an officer with the sheriff's office.
The caller claims that the victim missed jury duty and a warrant is out for their arrest. Scam victims are then told to purchase prepaid money cards or asked to give personal information like a Social Security number or bank account number.
The sheriff's office says jury duty is only handled by the Clerk of Courts. If someone is considered for jury duty, a mail questionnaire will be sent out.
If you miss a legitimate jury duty date, you will receive a letter from the Clerk of Courts. The clerk will never call over the phone.
If you have received a scam call, you are asked to call the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
