Roads Remain Closed After Serious Crash in Downtown Rockford

ROCKFORD, IL (WIFR) -- Parts of downtown roads remain closed tonight after a fleeing vehicles crashes into another vehicle and catches on fire.

Rockford police say Winnebago County Sheriff Deputies were in pursuit of a fleeing vehicle East on Chestnut Street after 7pm when the driver hit another vehicle while running a red light at the intersection of Church Street and Chestnut Street.

Investigators say the suspects vehicle caught fire after the crash. Two people were taken out of the vehicle by Winnebago County Deputies and transported to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Police say there was one person in the vehicle that was hit, the driver was transported to hospital and is expected to be okay.

The incident is under investigation.
