ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The man who pleaded guilty last November in the shooting death of 17-year-old Akeem Smith learns how long he will spend in prison.
A judge sentenced 19-year-old Retavian Jefferson to 10 years in prison. Jefferson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the March 2016 death of Smith. Investigators originally charged Jefferson, Martaivis Harmon and Jontavious Benford with first-degree murder.
Harmon was sentenced to 13 years in prison back in November. Benford will be in court Thursday morning for a status hearing.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - 19-year-old Retavian Jefferson is now charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Akeem Smith last year.
Jefferson was facing first-degree murder charges along with Javontavious Benford and Martaivis Harmon.
Last week, Harmon was sentenced to 13 years for second-degree murder. Benford will be in court at the end of this month.
Jefferson will receive credit for time served and faces four to twenty years in jail. He will be sentenced January 3.
