ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford Police is launching a private surveillance camera network program to aid in investigations.
Residents and business owners are able to sign up by providing their contact information, address and type of surveillance system.
That data is placed on a map accessible only by the police department.
If a crime occurs within the area of a registered camera, officers may reach to that resident to view footage.
Police hope it will improve crime-solving abilities and strengthen community ties.
Residents who want to sign up can click here.
The program is completely voluntary and of no cost.
