Report: Rockford area's unemployment rate climbs to 6.6%

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Rockford region's unemployment rate is up to 6.6%, according to a recent state report​.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says unemployment rose 1.1% in the Rockford metropolitan region compared to this time last year. This marks the largest jump among 14 surveyed metropolitan areas statewide.

IDES says an estimated 11,000 people are unemployed in the Rockford region.

The city of Rockford specifically noticed unemployment jump to 7.5% from 6.2% last year, per the report.
