Report: Rockford's gas prices climb 16 cents over past week

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Gas prices continue to climb in Rockford.

According GasBuddy price reports, Rockford's gas prices rose 16.3 cents per gallon on average over the past week.

Rockford's average gas price is currently $2.98, more than a quarter higher per gallon compared to last month. Compared to this time last year, GasBuddy reports gas prices are around 18 cents per gallon higher in the Rockford area.

"For the third straight week, the national average price of gasoline has risen, following oil prices higher due to global geopolitical tensions, declining oil inventories and Hurricane Barry shut in oil production in Gulf waters," said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

Rockford's average per-gallon gas price ($2.98) is 10 cents lower than state average ($3.08), but 19 cents higher than national average ($2.79).
