ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Illinois' unemployment rate hits a record low in September, according to the state's department of employment security.
The state's unemployment rate sits at 3.9% as of September.
IDES says 4,800 jobs were added in September compared to August. The trade, transportation and utilities industries saw the most gain, combining for nearly 2,400 jobs.
“We’re working hard to make sure Illinois’ economy works for everyone, and this administration is pleased to see the unemployment rate in Illinois reach a historic low," says Deputy Governor Dan Hynes. "We’ll keep building on that success by strengthening schools, improving our business climate and investing in infrastructure,” says Deputy Governor Dan Hynes.
IDES says Illinois' unemployment rate is about 0.4% higher than national average.
