Report: Illinois has the eighth best early education system

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- When it comes to preschool education, Illinois was recognized as one of the top states.

Illinois was named the eighth best state for early education systems in WalletHub's 2019 'Best & Worst Early Education Systems' report.

The report​ ranked states based on several criteria, including how many pre-K quality benchmarks were met and how much parents spent to enroll their child in pre-K.

Illinois ranked first in share of school districts the offer a state Pre-K program, third in daycare access and 13th in total state Head Start program spending per child enrolled in preschool.

Nebraska's early education system was named the best in the nation, while Indiana's was named the worst.
