Rockford, Beloit leaders race for new casino

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) --- After many years both Rockford and Beloit are at the cusp of finally opening a casino. Now the question is if the proximity will be detrimental to business for the cities.

Governor J.B Pritzker is expected to sign the gaming expansion bill into law within the next few days setting the wheels in motion to bring a casino to Rockford.

But Ho-Chunk Nation is waiting on an approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to bring a casino to Beloit.

State senator Dave Syverson who has been a strong advocate for a casino says that regardless, we can expect to see some form of a casino soon.

"It's going to take a while to actually see a facility but the law allows once they're approved, they can open up a temporary facility," says Syverson.
