RVC fundraiser benefits students with disabilities

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- Giving students of all abilities the opportunity to get a college education while learning critical life skills along the way. That's the goal of Rock Valley College's Academic Institute for Successful Employment Program.

RVC athletics teamed up with the RAISE program during Wednesday night’s women's and men’s basketball games for a fundraiser. A portion of ticket sales will go toward tuition and scholarships for students who face a financial burden. RVC officials say the program has had major success in helping those with disabilities get the skills they need to be ready for life and future employment.

“We want to provide these young people with an opportunity to be with their peers on a college campus and we keep the class sizes small enough that we can differentiate and customize the instruction for the different ability levels,” said MaryAnne Ax with the RAISE Program.
