UPDATE: Labor agreement reached for Rockford teachers and staff

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Rockford School Board approved a labor agreement with the Rockford Education Association Tuesday.

REA represents Rockford Public Schools teachers, psychologists, counselors, nurses and other certified staff.

According to RPS 205, teachers will see a five percent total base salary increase over three years.

The three-year contract comes after more than a year of negotiations.

The contract is effective July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2020.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Rockford Public Schools teachers voted Monday in favor of a proposed contract agreement.

The contract was approved by a five-to-one margin with more than 1800 votes cast. Teachers voted throughout the day in their buildings.

The contract will now go to the Rockford School Board for final approval. Some of the highlights of the three-year-deal include a 5-percent pay raise for teachers. There will be a cap on health insurance costs.

The teachers have been working without a contract throughout the year.
