RMTD looking for feedback from riders at upcoming public forum

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Many people living in the Stateline rely on the Rockford Mass Transit District to get to work each day.

"I like the Rockford Mass Transit bus station. It's very good," said Ryan Merrifield, RMTD rider.

Merrifield has been riding RMTD buses for 15 years and says he really enjoys all the different options he has when using the bus system.

"I go to Rosecrance on North Main. I go to Walmart on East State. Also if I don't want to go that far there is a closer Walmart on Riverside and Central and I go there," Merrifield said.

Merrifield along with 5,000 other people ride the bus each day and now it's their turn to give suggestions to RMTD about their experience.

"We are here to serve the public. So if we are not going where the riders need to go then there’s really no point to having a transit system. So we really want to make sure that we are absolutely hitting the mark on where passengers want to go and when they need to be there," said Lisa Brown, marketing and public relations specialist, RMTD.

RMTD has teamed up with the Regional Planning Council to host three rider forums as a way to give the public an opportunity to ask questions, get answers and provide some of their own ideas.

"The purpose of these forums is to have our current ridership come and engage in a discussion about the current transportation system that we have. Perhaps gaps in services or needs that we aren't addressing and then what they would like to see in a future transportation system in Rockford a couple years down the road and beyond," Brown said.

So that passengers like Merrifield can continue to enjoy the ride.

"There are lots of ideas but with the budget and everything I would think everything’s okay so far," Merrifield said.

There will be three forums, two on janurary16th and one on January 18TH. To learn more about the times and locations you can visit rmtd.org
