Remembering REACT helicopter crash six years later

COMPTON, Ill. (WIFR) -- Three people passed away six years ago​ when a Rockford medical helicopter crashed after a crew faced unusual weather conditions.

A REACT crew for Rockford Memorial Hospital had intended to turn back on a flight to Mendota after the pilot had reported about unsafe weather in the area.

The plane crashed in Compton, Illinois on Dec. 10, 2012, killing all three victims on board. Andy Olesen, the helicopter's pilot, and Jim Dillow and Karen Hollis, two Rockford Memorial nurses, died from the crash.

A memorial fund was set up through the Rockford Memorial Development Foundation to help families of the victims.
