'Prom Draw' tradition helps Aquin students find match

AQUIN, Ill. (WIFR) -- A tradition that dates back to the 1920's helps Aquin High School students find their match for prom.

During the annual "Prom Draw," juniors and seniors who want to attend prom put their names in a hat. The students are randomly paired up with a prom date.

After the selection, the boys get down on one knee and ask the girls to the dance.

Some students even go the extra mile with their prom-posals by dressing up in costumes and asking their dates in out-of-the-box ways.

"I think it's a great idea, and it involves all the juniors and seniors that want to go to prom," said Aquin High School senior Tyler Broge. "Nobody feels left out especially with how small Aquin numbers are. We all pretty much know who everybody is. To have a good idea who they are, that's what makes it a great tradition."

The school's junior and senior prom is scheduled for May 3.
