Prayers for the City of Rockford brings community members together

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- Community members took to the streets to pray for our neighborhoods, leadership, schools and first responders within the city of Rockford.

Prayers for the City of Rockford is a partnership between the Salvation Army of Winnebago and Victory Outreach to take ministry to the people. The Prayer Walk started at Brandy's Candies on Rockton Avenue and went all the way to the corner of Morgan and South Main Streets.

Organizers say the event is fashioned after the long-standing history of the Salvation Army's open air ministry.

"The event actually was translated into Spanish, as you can see, which was a plus, and yes, we collaborated with a lot of different organizations and churches," said Sister Brandy Gardner.

Prayer for Rockford was started by local house painter Carlos Chacon, who is a member of the Salvation Army Rockford Temple Hispanic Ministry and he says he felt called to minister outside the walls of the church.
