Powerball winner surprises Illinois mother on Mother's Day
A Mother's Day trip to Target ended up with a big surprise for one Franklin Park mother.
Nicole Domitro was approached by a young man who wanted give her a $200 Target gift card to help her celebrate Mother's Day. Domitro snapped a photo of herself with the good samaritan in Target.
The man was 24-year-old Manuel Franco, a Wisconsin man who claimed a $768 million Powerball prize last month. The jackpot was the third-largest in U.S. lottery history.
In a Facebook post, Domitro says she intended to get diapers, but left with much more thanks to the gift card. She had a conversation with Franco about how he used to work at a Target in Milwaukee and thanked him for the kind gesture.
"I’m sharing this because the world needs more Manuel Franco’s. We need to know that, even though the world is full of ugliness and hurt and pain and deceit - there are also those who are kind, and selfless, and good!" Domitro says.
In a press conference after he won, Franco said he bought $10 worth of tickets at a gas station and had less than a thousand dollars in his bank account.
Now, he's on a mission to give back.
