Poplar Grove golf outing supports organization to fight childhood cancer

POPLAR GROVE, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Friday golf outing helps fight childhood cancer one tee at a time.

Golfers in Poplar Grove stepped up to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand, an organization that helps fight childhood cancer and contributes to research.

The organization is named in honor of Alexandra Scott, a young girl who died from cancer, but first launched a lemonade stand and donated her earnings to help find a cure.

"Most everyone that we have talked to that's here today has had a child, knew a child, was related to a child who's life has been impacted," says Melissa Beth Thacker, a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual.

The fundraiser was hosted by Northwestern Mutual during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
