Elementary school students read dozens of books each year and rarely ever get the chance to meet those behind their favorite stories.

On Thursday, that changed for Poplar Grove Elementary School.

The school promotes reading with a new initiative that brings children's book authors to the school to meet and interact with the students.

Michael Wayne, the author and illustrator of a series called "Snowman Versus," visited Poplar Grove on Thursday.

"When I'm working, I'm in my office by myself and I'm trying to predict the way they're going to interact with the book, especially with the way my books are written," says Wayne. "It's a blast to come in to a school and there's a part of a book where they're suppose to react in a certain way and that happens. It's really rewarding."

Organizers say the students get excited to meet the authors of the book they are reading, which inspires them to keep reading.
