Police recover handgun, cannabis from Rockford man accused of shots fired

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man wanted for shots fired over the weekend faces weapons and drugs charges after an investigation.

Darius Townsend, 19, is accused of firing shots in the 400 block of Albert Avenue on Saturday morning. Police found shell casings after arriving to the scene around 12:10 a.m. after a ShotSpotter alert, but say nothing was struck.

Detectives executed a search warrant for the home at 421 Albert Ave. on Wednesday. Investigators found a loaded handgun, ammunition and 100 grams of cannabis while searching the home.

Townsend faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver.

Townsend was taken to Winnebago County Jail. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
