Police: Two boys shot in Rockford from two separate crimes over weekend

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Two boys are recovering after they were shot in Rockford in separate crimes early Saturday morning, according to police.

The victims, a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old boy, were both sent to hospitals and treated for minor injuries.

Police have not determined suspects in either investigation, nor whether the crimes are connected.

Officers first responded to reports of shots fired at 2:15 a.m. in the 900 block of 14th Street. Police found at least 24 shell casings after a home was struck by gunfire.

Police say a 12-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.

Less than an hour later, police say another home in the 1900 block of Grenshaw Street was struck.

Police say a 10-year-old boy was grazed by a bullet. He was taken to a local hospital, but has since been treated and released.
