ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Rockford man and juvenile were arrested after reportedly exchanging gunfire and striking a teen with one of the rounds.
Anthony Esteves-Barrera, 30, and a juvenile, a 14-year-old boy, face multiple weapons charges.
Police responded to a shots fired call Wednesday around 6:15 p.m. in the 4900 block of Alpine Park Drive. Officers say the incident started after a dispute with two juvenile girls.
Police say Esteves-Barrera and the juvenile began shooting at one another after the dispute. During the exchange, one of the juveniles, a 16-year-old was allegedly shot and suffered superficial injuries.
Officers recovered two handguns from the scene. Esteves-Barrera was found on scene, while the juvenile boy was stopped after a brief chase in the 1100 block of Hillcrest Road.
Esteves-Barrera was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons and no FOID card. He is being held at the Winnebago County Jail.
The juvenile boy was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, unlawful use of weapons by a gang member, aggravated discharge of a firearm and no FOID card. He was taken to a local juvenile detention center.
Esteves-Barrera and the juvenile male are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
