Police: Man arrested after robbery, threats at Mexican restaurant in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- An Elgin man was arrested for allegedly threatening a Mexican restaurant employee in Rockford and taking off with cash.

Courtney Butler, 30, was accused of a robbery at El Pueblo Mexican Restaurant on Tuesday afternoon.

Butler reportedly walked in the restaurant, located at 1527 Broadway, around 1:30 p.m., threatened an employee and left with an undisclosed amount of cash from a register. Police say no one was hurt.

Police arrested Butler with help from community tips. Officers found Butler around noon Thursday, and stopped him in the area of 9th Street and 16th Avenue.

Butler was charged with aggravated robbery. He is being held in Winnebago County Jail.

Butler is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
