ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- Podiatrists at SwedishAmerican say making sure we have the proper shoes is key to staying warm and healthy during harsh winter weather.
Experts say to wear shoes with a wide toe box that allows for thick socks to be worn underneath. We should also choose wool or cotton socks to keep our feet dry. And pick shoes or boots that provide good arch support and stabilizes our ankles.
“It also brings us ice and snow and so we want to make sure that we have shoes that have good traction because in the winter time, in my field and also in orthopedics, you also see a lot of fractures and injuries in the lower extremities so I would also advise getting great shoes for that,” said SwedishAmerican podiatrist Tiphani James.
