WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- For candidates who want to run in the general primary elections, petition packets are now available for pick-up.
The forms are available at the Winnebago County Elections Office, located in the 400 block of Elm Street. You and can pick up the forms from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
The order in which candidates file will determine their placement on the primary election ballot.
Winnebago County Clerk Lori Gummow says candidates should look into all of the rules in order to have a successful campaign.
"Signatures cannot be collected until after Labor Day," says Gummow. "People want to get their paperwork prepared, so that as soon as the Labor Day comes, they're out gathering those signatures. If you're running for a countywide position you might need a lot of signatures."
Candidates have until the week of Nov. 25 to file their petitions. The general primary elections are set for March 27, 2020.
