Overnight Cafe in Rockford opens to help locals battle severe weather

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- One local organization will open an overnight café on Monday in anticipation of frigid weather throughout the week.

SecondFirst Church will open the café at 9 p.m. Monday. Anyone in need of shelter and warmth can visit from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Thursday.

In a statement, SecondFirst Church says it is opening doors "because no one should die in the cold in this great city." While the church does not recommend spending the night, organizers say you're welcome "if the heat goes out or the fuel burns up."

The church will also have accommodations for people who need to bring their pets and those with pet allergies. You can visit the church at 318 N. Church St. in Rockford.

SecondFirst says you can support the effort by making a monetary donation to their website. If you would like to make a donation, click here.
