ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- "We like to say ‘girl scouts is fun with a purpose’."
For the first time, Rockford will be home to the Over the Edge 4 Girl Scouts event. Taking fundraising to new heights!
Participants will rappel down the eight-story Supplycore building downtown.
"I'm looking forward to it and hopefully we can raise a lot of money for the girl scouts, to insure the continue to instill courage confidence and character in so many young women in our community," said Mayor Thomas McNamara.
In the past, the event has raised 135,000 to help girls in need gain access to join the girl scout experience. Those who take part must raise at least $1,000 to make the plunge.
"We are working with an organization who does this for a living. They do at least 600 every year. They use industrial strength ropes, there is training for participants when they are on the roof before they come down... So, it's a super safe activity, said Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois CEO Fiona Cummings."
"They try new things that maybe they would have never done before. They feel a great sense of accomplishment and that kind of sets them on their way to do newer exciting things in their future,” said Director of Development Lynn Momberger.
