Rockford, Ill (WIFR) -- Hundreds of kids in Belvidere received bicycles during Manley Belvidere Ford's third annual Build-a-Bike event.

Community members and businesses donated bikes to be given to local children in need. More than 100 bikes were handed out to kids as well as helmets, locks and goody bags. For many of the children, this is the first bicycle they have ever received, and event organizers say the best part about the event is seeing the smiles on the kids facing when the get their brand new bike.

"We wanted to give back and we thought it was a really cool way to give kids in need a bike,” said Joe Hamblock, general manager at Manley’s Belvidere Ford.

“Kids with bikes they get responsibility, freedom, a sense of ownership. If you look around everyone is smiling and having a good time,”
