ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The city of Rockford has shifted some of its programs with the goal of helping small businesses in the Stateline.

Rockford Director of Community and Economic Development Karl Franzen talked about some of those changes at the weekly "One Million Cups" event for local startups.

Franzen focused on the city's investments on initiatives like Indoor City Market and the Advanced Technology Center at Barber Colman, as well as the facilitation role the city plays through it's Business First program for new entrepreneurs to understand the regulatory environment.

"There's certainly different sectors of entrepreneurs but when you look at job creation and the country as a whole," said Franzen. "They're coming from new business, not necessarily established businesses and so entrepreneurship is such a critical element to economic development."

One Million Cups is a local chapter of a national initiative of the Kauffman Foundation focused on entrepreneurs networking and sharing their experiences.
