ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Tuesday marks one month since Rockford police officer Jaimie Cox and Eddie Patterson were killed at an early morning traffic stop on the city's east side.
Blue lights can still be seen proudly displayed in dozens of homes across the city. Tributes poured in from everyone from elected officials to complete strangers.
Cox's funeral was attended by hundreds of members of law enforcement from across the country and thousands more lined the streets to honor him immediately following the funeral.
Even weeks later, those tributes are still pouring in as Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger delivers remarks about Cox on the house floor.
"Jaimie Cox spent his life dedicated to serving and protecting others. On a daily basis, he risked his life to help others and he gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting our community. On behalf of the 16th Congressional District of Illinois, we honor his service, mourn his sacrifice, and pay tribute to our fallen hero," says Kinzinger.
Donations to both the Cox and Patterson families can be made on their respective GoFundMe pages.
