A group of the Forest City's newest generation of leaders banded together and took the community into their own hands for a 5k Fun Run in support of the Family Peace Center.

Next Rockford took over the Prairie Street Brewhouse on Saturday afternoon, raising awareness and sparking a conversation about domestic violence and the work the city is doing to lower its presence.

Runners of all ages came down during the warm fall day, doing what they could to support those in need.

"So, when you look at some of the statistics for the Family Peace Center and the need for it, it's really staggering. So, one third of all our 911 calls in our community are about domestic violence, or domestic violence related. So, we need to end the cycle of violence here in our community," said race director Robert Young.
