ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A coalition of community advocates makes a push for a casino in downtown Rockford.

The Rock River West Casino Group announced a proposal for a downtown casino.

According to the group, the proposed casino would be located near an anticipated train station, Amerock Embassy Suites Hotel on the South Main corridor.

The group says visitor access will be easy, as the proposed location would be within ten minutes of U.S. 20, I-90 and the Chicago Rockford International Airport.

Rock River West group leaders hope to enhance the atmosphere of downtown at the Waterpower District.

“This new Entertainment District will enrich our community while supporting the entire downtown destination,” says Stacy Bernardi from the Rock River West Advocacy Group. “We envision that this project location can definitively grow more entertainment events for the BMO Harris Bank Center, Coronado Theater and Davis Park with existing and added restaurants, existing and new retail, and new entertainment attractions in and around the South Main Corridor and the overall River District.”

The city of Rockford will consider all proposals submitted by Friday, August 16. Hard Rock International announced a proposal for a casino at the former Clock Tower Resort location earlier this month.
