Illinois sets new guidelines to fight fraudulent opioid prescriptions

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WIFR) - New legislation in Illinois puts extra guidelines in place to fight the practice of "doctor shopping" for opioid prescriptions.

Governor Bruce Rauner signed legislation that requires doctors with an Illinois Controlled Substance License to register with and use the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program.

The program keeps a record of a patient's prescription history so they are less likely to try and get prescriptions from different doctors
