ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR)--- As the city of Rockford moves out of the downtown Public Safety Building, plans for a newly renovated industrial building commence.
Built in the 1970s, the PSB in downtown Rockford has been the home to many departments over the years. Currently, its main use is as storage for the property and evidence unity. But the city will soon wave goodbye to the building.
"Under the terms, of our agreement, the county provided us notice that they were terminating our lease agreement on the PSB," says city administrator Todd Cagnoni.
In its place comes a seven million dollar renovation project to an industrial building in the 4800 block of Shepherd Trail. The promise of the new facility is efficiency.
"Crime scene technicians usually bring in property or evidence from cases and to have them house in the same building with the evidence collection facility will help save time," says police chief Dan O'Shea.
